Webcomic name: We've Got Issues
Author: Kk | WEBTOON (webtoons.com)
Start Date: Jan 18, 2023
End Date: Ongoing, but in an irregular update rate.
Genre: Romance/Drama
Defining Flaw: The racist caricature art style, Blatant use of poorly Photoshopped images and bad Soap Opera level storytelling.

Rating Summary

Art:

Big Lips, Cloudy skin, Wobbly anatomy that makes these characters look like Aliens. These are the best description of this webcomic's art style without adding its blatant racist caricature of black people.

Storyline: Wiki.png

Soap-Opera level Storytelling. But TV-Soap Opera has a quality assurance compared to this mess.

Characters: Wiki.pngHalf.png

About as 2-Dimensional as the 'depth' of the story.

Miscellaneous Details: Wiki.pngWiki.pngWiki.png

It uses images from the internet as Tattoos, Buildings and Structures. Emojis are added to represent the characters feelings in a word bubble styled as a Dating-Sim.

Or at least what I'm seeing.

Overall: Half.png

This is the third Webtoon in the Author's List. A so bad is good kind of webtoon for sure. Assuming they aren't some parody, the author needs A LOT of work to actually make this a passable and enjoyable Webcomic.

Background

Watched a video about this webtoon on YouTube, and saw that user ZenForce was making their own review so I wanted to try it myself. So, this is my first review.

Downfall?

The Author, KK, made two more work before this. With the same art style. The first one, Juxtaposition, looks like this:

Image taken from Juxtaposition, KK's first Webtoon

  • And Finally, We've Got Issues. The two image below is from 2023 - 2024:
2023 Image of Dione, the Female MC
2024 Image of two women, the white clothed being Dione.

I want to believe the art style improved. But with how there's so many errors like the shadow figure in 2024 looks poorly erased. The fog on the white clothed woman's hair.

I didn't even touch the story. Or their speech bubble and how it's formatted.

I want to believe the author do care for their work. So, for now, I'm just coping here.

Story and Plot

Characters (There's more here, but these are the Main Focus)

Dione (We've Got Issues).PNG
  • Dione, She's the Main Character, the center focus of the story and narrative. Imagine Kim Kardashian as a stereotypical wealthy teenager who got gung-ho engaged to a random guy off the streets all because he looks 'sexy' and 'bad'. That's part of her. Sass included.

Dione's Husband

  • Kage, He's Dione’s Husband. The reason why Dione got in trouble since he's Brother to Oman, who he also owes money too. He's angry a lot, doesn't care about Dione after their marriage which is the main problem of the story.

Kage's Brother

  • Oman, he's Kage's brother. Have been trying to get Kage to pay his debt to his family by attempting to kidnap Kage's Wife Dione.

Dione's Dad
  • Mr. Harris, Dione's Dad who owns a multimillion-dollar company (of what, unsure and not very memorable fact in the story). He retired and gave his company to Dione's husband for reasons unknown, even though there's really no reason to if he saw how he treated his kid.

So, what's the story?

Dione's relationship has been down on the dump. Her husband Kage hasn't been paying attention to her, always getting hissy and everything. Then one day she met Oman, he woo'ed her and from there he invited her to this rich celebrity meet-up where he discovers she was Kage's wife, the guy who owed him money.

So he kidnaps her. She escaped easily. Her parents found out and one of their attendees/employees were the first to tell them. His name is Aiden.

Aiden found her at a bar. They talked about Oman, revealing he is Kage's brother.

Dione also found out Oman was with another girl. Why is this relevant? Because Oman was also charmed at Dione, a classic case of Stockholm.

That's a pretty bare-bones explanation...

I agree. It is bare bones. Because the story's not that deep.

It's mimicking a combination of Soap Operas and Reality TV Personas, if the art-style hasn't made you think the author likes the Kardashians a little too much. But a simple story can be told interestingly what with Pinocchio or heck, even Soap Operas. This webtoon isn't the case.

It's worst offense (besides the racist/weird ahh art style previously and somewhat now) is the grammar and how characters convey their statements to each other.

Easily fixable mistake, 25 Episodes after

It's 4 highlights sure. But that's four EASILY fixable highlights. These little errors stressed me for god-knows-why.

It makes re-reading this story hard and painful. Considering the image above explains the previous chapters more than the entire chapters themselves, that's a MAJOR problem. The explanation of the previous chapters clearing the entire story.

It sucks.

The Art style (It changes for the better, probably the reason why I have more hope for the author)

When I saw the art style, my first thought was, of course, The Kardashians. Because there's only one group of people with that kind of makeup. Judging the story, it's likely they were the Author's main inspiration.

Recently the art-style isn't as racist as before. It is the main selling point of the entire Webtoon, at least for those enjoying it ironically.

Best description of the art-style? 1950s Kardashians. You've got the big lips for sure, but the eyelash, the body dysmorphia can only be found on Bratz dolls.

Truly sickening, like a bloody car crash.

The Author

KK seem pretty young. It might explain why the grammar is terrible and the art-style very beginner. Other than his webtoon page they don't link any other social media.

Summary

It's terrible. For sure. The only way for the author to fix this entire series is to reboot it later on when they truly know their shit. How to write properly, how to color and do background right.

YouTube and the Internet as a whole is a good source to find things you want to learn those stuff.

If you're willing to fix your series that is.

Start with story first, make a draft and make sure everything from grammar, sentence structure and all is fix and high quality. Like you're writing an assignment for school. The art can come later since you've been doing bang up job making it more and more realistic (It's slow for sure but there is improvement.)
