Forum Backup Talk Page
This is the Forum Backup Talk Page. Because we've been having recurrent problems with Yuku forums, this page is available for discussion in its place. Here are the ground rules:
- Treat this page like a standard talk page. That means signing all you posts at the end so we know who you are. Use four tildes (~~~~) to sign your name.
- This page is ONLY for the discussion of a forum alternative, and is to be used primarily when Yuku is down.
- Avoid using headers and nested comments, since this thread will only be used to cover one topic.
- Any derailing discussions will automatically be nuked, and the page will be locked when necessary.
- Leaving comments solely to complain about Yuku isn't permitted. We know it sucks already. That's why we're looking into alternatives.
Post your suggestions below
As of the time of me posting, it's down again, isn't it?
Useful tool to check is iidrn.com (Is it down right now?) but even then, there are times it'll say it is up, which is technically correct as the page can be loaded but you then find you can't log in which is what we just had happen for a while, too.
Even when Yuku.com is fully functional, I don't like how I can't see more than the last few posts I've made if I ever want to look back. Whatever option we end up going with, I'd like to suggest one which has an option where you can look back at every post you've made if you want (I don't know how I blew my post count by so much, I hope to be more economical in future going forward.)

I think some wierd technical problems are happening, maybe someone with better IT experience can figure this out. So earlier today I got the message that Yuku's server software has been updated and the DNS has changed. It also said that if I was seeing this message, I just have to wait for my ISP to flush its cache and get the real page. However, now I get the same old "cannot connect to this page" error message as before, although this time iidrn is saying it's up, and I've tried all the suggestions. Any ideas what this is? So, it's not just me. I was beginning to wonder with Is It Down Right Now? saying the forums were still up but then I got that flushing cache business as well. Somehow, I suspect that's not it. I think we're probably going to have to wait it out. Seriously, for 2017, we have to get a new forum. Even when it's 'fully' operational, a lot of the functionality leaves a lot to be desired.

... and we're down again.

Board just went down as I was hitting post on my long reply to izzus. Luckily I had just enough time to copy it when I realised what was happening. Site has been down for at least 10 minutes now.

At the time of my previous post above, Is It Down Right Now? just said the site was down. Now it's saying the website is undergoing maintenance.

... and we're back - at least long enough for me to get my follow-up post in, at least.

AFAIK Yuku's been handling the issue better than in the past. Now instead of a mysterious error message they tell you they're doing maintenance. It's still annoying, though, since they appear to do it every month for many hours at a time. Plarblman (talk) 16:41, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Just went down again. Had been looking at the forums, so literally just happened ~ 5 minutes ago.

OK, looks like it was just a temporary hiccup this time.
